After a few years of running a 2332cc, turbocharged, air cooled flat four Ive decided its time to move on. With the kind of beating we put on our cars, it became extremely difficult to maintain the current engine and remain competitive. Being in the middle of the country definitely did not help, with all but a few of the local air cooled shops closing down I had to start looking elsewhere before we were too far behind the curve.
The air cooled community has been amazing to me and extremely supportive. The decision to move on was not an easy one to make. I am unsure of what direction the Dung Beetle will go but the goal is, as always, to go fast as possible on the street while remaining as much a streetcar as possible.
Stay tuned!!!
You are correct. To bad some of the old guys are gone. I remember TK Archer and his machine shop he had behind his house there in Bethany. My dad was an old air cooled guy too.
I guessing you’ve already looked in to a Gene Berg engine. I’ve heard nothing but good things from people who have purchased a fully built, turnkey engine, but I’m not sure it going to be enough horsepower for you. If you go with a Porsche or Subaru engine & tranny, you’re looking at a shit load of cutting and fitting including all new suspension front & back.
Whatever you end up doing, I’m sure we’d all love to see the work involved for you & Farmtruck.
Good luck Azn.
Go subaru wrx sti cheap and fast easy conversion
Subaru EJ25 with turbos and stand alone EFI. Tons of HP potential and it will fit under the deck lid! There are even Subi trans swaps so you have more gears, and I’ve even seen an AWD conversion.
Time for the dungmod?!?
