After a few years of running a 2332cc, turbocharged, air cooled flat four Ive decided its time to move on. With the kind of beating we put on our cars, it became extremely difficult to maintain the current engine and remain competitive. Being in the middle of the country definitely did not help, with all but a few of the local air cooled shops closing down I had to start looking elsewhere before we were too far behind the curve.
The air cooled community has been amazing to me and extremely supportive. The decision to move on was not an easy one to make. I am unsure of what direction the Dung Beetle will go but the goal is, as always, to go fast as possible on the street while remaining as much a streetcar as possible.
Stay tuned!!!
Mid-engine V8! Back in the early ‘80s Hot VW’s did a story on a Type one that a guy shoehorned the front cradle from a front drive Olds Toronado behind the front sheets and enclosed it. He also built the suspension to be adjustable in ride height. It was pretty awesome with a stock Olds 403 in the back seat. A modern Cadillac V8 front cradle would be a pretty stout package and weigh less than the Olds.
The Dung Beatle raced a good friend of mine Steve Bishop, what’s the real scoop on that race? Grew up in OKC loving badazz cars watching them buzz the streets in Edmond. Hopping y’all stay true to your roots of actual street racing!!
Stick with flat 4. Large displacement Pauter engine and bigger turbo. Done deal…
Me and my son love the Dung Beetle, the whole street sleeper thing is where its at. Look forward to seeing what crazy mods you do to it. Keep it AZN, its a fantastic car. Have a look at the Fiat 500 with a V12 Lambo engine in it..
Subaru swap? Lots of people are starting to do that stay flat 4 or I seen in another comment a Porsche would be another great option Subaru need a motor plate and a renamed computer but takes some work
